Jami (Jami on SCS) recently sent me a RAK challenge; an envie with a few stamped images and sentiments from this set, Stampin' Fun for Everyone. The challenge was to create a card, post it online and send the link to her. Let me preface this with, I about choked when I opened the envie and saw the images. This set is so NOT me. I mean I love to stamp, but these images.........well......let's just keep it at that. *grin*
So, I'm breaking the rules a little, we were to post it next week. I finished it the other day when I had some free time and if I don't post it now, it will get buried in the den pile and never see the light of day until my next pile clean up session. And since I just did that over the weekend, it could languish there for weeks! Sorry Jami, I am normally a rule follower!
The card base is from a box of preprinted card bases that I picked up at Michaels with a 40% off coupon. I needed to make 30 or so assorted birthday cards for PTSA to hand out, and this was the fastest way to accomplish this and have them look fab in the process. Just slap on a matted image and sentiment, a strip of coordinating cardstock, stamp the inside, and 30 cards were done in about an hour. The cards are by DCWB and include a variety of preprinted textured card blanks and envelopes.
Card details: I decided on this bold card base to bring out the retro feel of these stamps. That, of course, determined the color scheme. Image was colored with an aquapainter and assorted stamp pads. When using an aquapainter on Whisper White cardstock remember to use a gentle touch, wiping the excess water on a paper towel, so that the paper doesn't ball up or get too wet. I prefer the AP over the blender pen for watercoloring on any type of paper. It just provides the look I prefer.
After watercoloring, I dtp'd the edges with Old Olive, matted the image onto Chocolate Chip, punched the slot, tied the ribbon and added corner brads. I then matted the completed image layer onto a Marigold scrap using dimensionals. Cut and pierced an accent strip, then added that funky saying by popping up the stamped circle Jami included in the envie.
For not liking this set, I think this card came out pretty cute and will find someone to send it to who might get a chuckle out of it when they open the mail!

You certainly arose to this challenge, your style of image or not. This card is so cute! The colors and pattern of the PP go great with the retro theme. TFS
I am with Beth. You totally nailed the challenge, even if the image is out of your comfort zone. Love the great card base and that you used a circle for your saying. Definitely helped tie it all in with the background.
you're funny, Val! I have to agree with you about these 'ladies' they're so old fashioned! But - I LOVE what you did with the colors & retro feel! tfs
GREAT job with this retro set, Val -- the paper is perfect! It's fun to challenge yourself every now and then, isn't it? Now, 10 slaps of a wet noodle for breaking the rules! ;)
RULE BREAKER!!!! bwahahahahahaha *wink*
I am NOT a fan of this stamp set, either but you nailed it Val! LOVE the retro circle card base!!
Val, when I first saw this card pop up, my first thought was *What the heck is this?* Don't get me wrong, I DO love your card as always. But in my mind I was thinking, *this is NOT a set my Val would purchase*. I like the set cuz I like retro stuff, it just never made it's way onto my wish list. Great design as always Val!!!
My thoughts when first seeing this card were very similar to Michelle W's, as this image is definitely *different* from what we normally see coming from you. I totally cracked up after reading your explanation Ü. You did an awesome job on this card ~ as usual. Thanks for keeping us smiling!
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE your card. No one would have known it was out of your comfort zone if you hadn't told us, silly! I'd say you did Jami proud!
You definitely captured the feel of the card/stamp! Great job, I love the retro look!
WOW! Love the paper, the layout--everything!
I have such a big smile on my face after reading about this cool card, Val! "She's" definitely more of a 'June Cleaver' type, and you've captured a delightful retro 'feel' for her. (*sigh*) I remember putting back a very similar pack of cards at the $spot a few weeks ago ... I should have known ..... ;)
Ha!! Val you have the ability to make everthing look GREAT!!!
Love this! Very pretty!

BETY :)
