Sometimes.....

You just have to play hooky from life, for a few hours. I have been so bogged down with a number of things around here - from heading a volunteer art program at Brett's school, to dealing with extended family issues, to having a teenager (those of you with teens are nodding in agreement, I can feel you!) plus the day to day duties of having a family, and just not having time for stamping just for the heck of it. I miss that and have found that the longer I stay away, the easier it is to not begin, but the grumpier I get because of it.

So this morning, even after posting yesterday that it might be a while 'till I posted, I decided to tell life.....

I NEED A BREAK from you.

So, I stamped. I borrowed some inspiration for this layout from stamp goddess, Michelle Wooderson. She often utilizes an entire sheet of 12 x 12 paper in one sitting all the time. Her advice: cut the paper into 4 x 4 squares, it's enough to make 9 cards. I pulled a few coordinating colors from the patterned paper for the layers and then stamped the main image, ticket cornered a couple of the layers, and assembled the cards. I stamped the birthday sentiment on 4 of them and kept 5 blank. I can stamp the sentiment on those when the need arises. They went together rather quickly and I feel like the left side of my brain is satiated for today.

This was the first time I have really used Purely Pomegranate ink. My pad was so juicy that all images previously looked blotchy and uneven, so I would toss them straight into the circular file. This morning, I finally blotted the ink pad with some paper towels and took away a good portion of the ink, what a huge difference. I actually may use this color more now. I think my Soft Sky pad is next!

Tonight, some down time with Jay. We've Netflixed Wild Hogs and are having movie night. I can't wait.

Well, thanks for listening and have a wonderful, relaxing weekend, doing what you love!

Supplies: Stamps: Priceless, Hugs and Wishes, Ink: Purely Pomegranate, Bashful Blue, Lavender Chalk ink, Paper: Bashful Blue, Old Olive, Purely Pomegranate, Whisper White, DCWV Patterned Paper from Michaels, Accessories: Pomegranate stitched ribbon, Ticket corner punch, 1/8" circle punch (for ribbon), Mat Pak and piercing tool, Dimensionals

Hurray for you! Way to go Val, I'm proud of you. I just stamped today for the first time all week, too. I get so crabby when I don't get my special time. And I'm sure you were talking about me when you said you see our heads nodding when you mentioned teenagers. I SO know what you're talking about!

Hugs,
Amy

Sometimes we get so busy doing for everyone else that quiet time for ourselves gets a *wee* bit neglected. So glad you finally took some time for yourself, Val ~ which benefits us too ;-)! Thanks for sharing M's excellent way to make so many cards with one sheet of dp! I'll definitely be borrowing that great tip as I make lots of cards to give in gift packs for teachers, neighbors and friends ~ and I have way too much dp in my stash.

Have a wonderful weekend! Hopefully its much cooler out your way now Ü

Hugs,
Michelle

Gosh, Val, I know what you mean and I just keep pushing myself anyway. I need to slow down but it just doesn't happen. You're wise to take time out for yourself. At least now you've added some cards to your stash. They'll come in handy when you need them. I love the Pomegranate and blue with that very pretty paper. Take care!

Valerie, I come to your blog everyday and enjoy your creativity more than you'll ever know but I wanted to just encourage you about "life". I have 5 children...3 of which are teenagers (actually my eldest is 20 now so technically not a teenager) but I completely understand the stress, worry and concern with raising teenagers. When we choose to parent with our eyes open parenting becomes exhausting. At times it seems like it would be easier to close our eyes and just hope for the best fo them...but keep your hand to the plow and all that hard will pay off..if not today...in the future.

Take care
Corinne

Great cards Val! Thanks to you and Michelle for the tip on the DP! I need to do that too. I'll need to do that paper towel trick on my Soft Sky too. It's very juicy. Enjoy your evening!

Glad to hear you got some stamping therapy (and I'm also glad to hear I'm not the only one that gets edgy when I don't get to be crafty). This is a beautiful card! Congrats, too, on the design team appointment. I look forward to seeing your creations there!
