Home Decor Challenge - Dry Erase Frame

It's Monday and CHF Blog Challenge Chicks time again, this week the theme was Home Decor. Hmmm, we use standard dry erase boards like crazy around here, as well as mirrors, so why not a glass picture frame?

I wanted an 8" x 8" picture frame for this project and was very lucky to find this frame on the clearance rack at our local Michaels Arts and Crafts store. Why did I want that particular size? Well, that's what size the Paper Packs designed by Cornish Heritage Farms are, no need to cut the paper down, they fit perfectly.

I decided to use the Mocha Chica Paper Pack by Kim Hughes, but think of the possibilities.... changes in patterned paper choices to reflect the season! I'll be using the Thomas Kinkade papers in December for sure! The paper was gussied up with a die cut title, a couple cute paper pieced birds (to match the background paper), a green strip of paper and a length of twill tape. Things need to remain fairly flat so that the glass from the frame will rest correctly in the frame.

Why does it say "Stamp Today" on it? Well I've hardly felt like stamping since last week when I put together just about 100 cards for PTSA. But I'll have some new things to share this week with you - the SOTM on the 1st and Kim's newest sets coming on the 2nd. In between, gearing up for the launch of Arts Attack down at Brett's school again this year.

Be sure to check out the blogs of the other CHF DT gals! Links are on the left side under CHF Design Team.

Happy Monday!

FS86 Terribly Late~

I quickly (because I really should be working on other things!) made this card for today's Featured Stamper Challenge over at SCS. The object of this challenge is to look at the FS gallery, choose a card, and change at least 3 things in the original card.

Turns out the card I picked from TERROR03's gallery was a card she used for a previous FS challenge. I chose this card because it was clean, simple, and fast; plus I saw in my head how I could change it the minute I saw her card. I changed up: the stamp sets, used patterned paper for the center square instead of an inked image, tied the ribbon behind the image instead of over the top, and omitted the piercing as I just didn't feel like piercing today. ;)

So, easy peasy, fast and finished so I can get back to the things I really should be doing! It will head out in the mail tomorrow, belated birthday wishes for a friend.

Vintage Suburban~

This '38 Suburban is the second image in the GM™ line for September's release happening today over at CHF. I had in mind a vintage looking card, almost like an old photograph, when I was creating this on Wednesday.

I stamped the image with StazOn Timber Brown onto a scrap of CHF's Clear Card Sheets and then flipped it over - the stamp orientation is actually the other way. Underneath the image is a scrap of vanilla card stock that has been dtp'd with Ranger Distress Inks. Four antique brads hold the 2 together eliminating the need for an adhesive. Mounted to a piece of glossy card stock that has been dtp'd and roughed up completes the image panel.

The license plate patterned paper is a Tim Holtz find at my favorite LSS and completes the vintagey look I was shooting for by adding a bit of sponging around the edges. The blue panel was edge distressed before adhering to the card (and is not that BLUE irl but rather the same shade as the Oregon license plate on the patterned paper. I'm not sure why it looks so bold here. ).

Some cards need an outside sentiment and others are fine without; this one is without as I felt it would compete too much with the license plates from the patterned paper. Plus it leaves your options open....birthday, thank you, thinking of you, Father's Day, etc.

'53 'Vette~

Before.

After.

Do people still use these? Apparently so as I purchased one at the office supply store yesterday. I was never very good at keeping track when I logged mileage for a job I used to do. When these GM stamps first came out, one of my first thoughts with them were cards for guys, then I thought about doing a mileage log. I decided the 'Vette from this month's release was the one that should adorn the log. I gingerly removed the cover and made another one - a tad prettier than the standard office issue one, don't ya think?
Inside has a pocket for gas receipts and whatnot.

Pretty simple way to dress up a plain jane mileage log.

1953 Corvette image is one of the new GM™ releases over at CHF tomorrow.

67%~

My final grade is a 67% on Jami's DD/DDA September Challenge. The perimeters were:

Challenge Focus: Create a NO LAYER card any size, any color. Your card base is it - no additional layers of cardstock or designer paper at all.

Required Element: Masking - use masking or reverse masking in some way to create your design.

Restricted Element: No use of the color pink

I generally print these out, being the rule follower and all....:)
But for some reason, this time, really thought I could remember it all. Apparently not. So a day late and missing a required component, I finished this card this morning.

You can see some FABULOUS no layer cards here:

Avast!~

It's International Talk Like a Pirate Day! A bit of trivia for a second post. Did you know today is International Talk like a Pirate Day? I had no idea until I was informed of it earlier today. How could I let this pass me up in the creative department?

www.talklikeapirate.com

After I walked Riley I decided to quickly throw a pirate bag together to hold some pirate goodies. Next, I've got run to Target and get the pirate eye patches they have in their Halloween section (a big bag of them for about $4 or so) before I hit Brett's class just before dismissal and hand out the patches. What 5th grader wouldn't like an eye patch to wear home?
I know it wouldn't be welcome in the class before dismissal! Imagine the mayhem! LOL

Pirate bags are scrungy and distressed, right? So a white lunch bag has been direct to paper distressed with an Adirondack Latte stamp pad, a quick, not so perfect Broad Stripes backgrounder stamp in Red Pepper on top of that. Then roll the tops down and staple on some twill tape for handles. The Skull and Crossbones image is another one from CHF that I got because Brett wanted me to get it. It's quickly stamped onto black Bazzill card stock with Versamark and dunked into White ep. The panel is distressed and torn, a grommet and some string from the garage is added and it's done. Just attach to the bag with dimensional foam and fill with pirate treasures!

2 posts in one day - you should see my stamp area!

Arrrr! Arrrrr! I be needin' t' have a bit of a lie-down' but instead I must clean up!

Brownie Cookies ~

I've a good friend Mish who makes the most awesome recipe cards. They will be treasured keepsakes for her family in the years to come. Mine, well, generally a xerox, newspaper clipping or print out from the computer shoved into a box. I'm lucky if I can find what I am looking for when I need to. Thus the same meals over and over again I suppose :)!

Anywhoooo, another friend of mine asked me for the Brownie Cookie recipe I make, again, (easy peasy, clipped out of the newspaper and shoved in said box) she's lost the copy I made for her last year. So I decided to make a Mish Mash inspired recipe card for her. Can't misplace these, now can you?! So this was my after my coffee before taking the kids to school project this morning, I wanted to be finished with it early in order to take it with me when I took Brett to school as the recipient is a great friend who works there.

Kim Hughes Bake with Love set from CHF is perfect for this recipe card! I made sure to use inks that are permanent and won't run if the card gets damp - Versafine Vintage Sepia for the stamps, a Copic marker (E31) for the coloring, and a Copic Multiliner for the writing. I did use the computer to generate the "brownie cookies" part, I've no idea if that is waterproof or not ... probably not. :)

The list of ingredients is on the front, the recipe itself on the reverse side.

So this begs the question, do you have an organized recipe system or a haphazard box like me?

Sihouette Thoughts

Today's Way to Use it Challenge over at SCS is Silhouettes. I've a number of silhouettes to choose from various manufacturers and I chose a brand new, never been inked set that has been on my counter for a little while now. I also cracked open the new SU! inks, papers, and the Upsy Daisy set to create this card to drop in a friend's mailbox this morning and let her know that she's been on my mind.

It's stamped faux embossed style using SU!'s White Craft ink and the new Pacific Point Classic ink. New ribbon, corner brads, repetitive silhouette stamping along the bottom, and a coordinated envie finish off the card.

I hope you're having a great day. I am finally starting to feel human again, the antibiotics must be starting to do their thing!

Legoland Memories~

Remember this post?

I finally made 2 memory books for both boys today. As you know a scrapper I am not, but an occasion booklet maker I am, and do so on occasion. :) I made this Legoland memory booklet today out of chipboard, card stock, and the Bind it All. It's filled it with pictures (just under 50) from our fun adventure to Legoland. Alec and his family loved it when we dropped it off this afternoon!

There's nothing fancy going on here, even the ribbon was a question mark, as I know these books are for boys. They will be handled often, reliving the day and anticipating our visit next year, so I just didn't want to bellie it up too much. I kept the color scheme Lego type colors; I wanted to use Lego patterned papers and I've seen them in the past, but when I went out looking in my local area, they were no where to be found. I'm sure if I would have driven farther or looked online I would have found them, but to me, it's just as effective to use bold solid colors.

The finished cover is 4.25" x 6.75" and the inside pages (all card stock pages in the colors shown on the cover) are 4.25" x 6.5" Ticket stubs and the Lego Drivers License are attached to the inside cover of the book. Cuttlebugged Reg Tag Alpha letters, a "ticket" with computer generated date details, and 2 red punched photo corners complete the cover. A final run through the Bind it All and it becomes a perfect quick memory booklet to treasure the day.

So, if you're like me and scrapping the traditional way is overwhelming, try an occasion booklet, they are fast, fun and a great way to preserve the occasion.

Clearly ~

The Night Before Christmas in Blue. Today is the release date for Thoma's Kinkade's The Night Before Christmas over at CHF.

The main image was stamped onto the smooth side of Prismatics Baby Blue Light with Versafine Vintage Sepia. Image was colored and highlighted with the white gel pen. No other coloring medium was applied. Edges of inside panel are sponged with white acrylic paint and snowflakes randomly stamped with same paint. Inside sentiment is stamped in Versafine Vintage Sepia and hides behind the image when card is closed. The card base is a CHF Clear Card Sheet, these are wonderful high quality transparency sheets that are rigid and perfect for clear cards.

Just a short post today; I finally broke down
( because Jay made me Ü ) and went to the doctor late yesterday. I have an acute (not ugly LOL) case of sinusitis .... something I suspected. Hopefully by tomorrow the antibiotics will start to kick in, for now it feels like someone kicked in the right side of my face.

Happy middle of the week to you!

Soft tissues, lots of rest, chicken soup....

Certainly the key to getting better, right? Another very useful Mona Lisa Moments set by Cornish Heritage Farms comes out tomorrow, Sept. 16th, called Get Well Centers. Centers are perfect for the inside and outside of your cards, and to have one designed for get well cards will be a wonderful sentiment set to have on hand! I combined Mona's set and Kim's new set, Comforting Hugs, to create this get well card. Again, I could send this to myself, this darn cold is lingering like crazy!

A bit of paper piecing ties the images together with the patterned paper. For a bit of fun, a slit was made in the tissue box and a snippet of tissue was inserted before gluing the tissue box down.

On another note, because I have received emails, personal calls, and such asking me how to comment on my posts, comments will be enabled again.
Be well.

Birthday Bash ~

In purple and blue. A specific color request by Morgan for her good friend and soccer mate, Katie. These cute cupcakes are just one image from Kim's newest set, Birthday Bash, releasing on Tuesday the 16th over at CHF.

Simple, basic layout, one that all of us have done at some point along our crafting path. It just seemed to be the one that worked well with these stacking (jumping?) cupcakes. I decided on the cupcake image (there are plenty others to choose from!) because Morgan and another friend baked 21 cupcakes to take to their game this afternoon. Two of the cupcakes were stamped on the main image panel, the other on a scrap which was cut out and attached to the card with dimensional foam.

Copic markers in the following colors were used to color the cupcakes:
Y11 and Y17 for the candle flame, BV02 and BV13 for the purple cupcake liners and candle, B12 and B14 for the blue liners and candles.

You can see the finished inside in this picture. My good friend, Cindy, uses snippets of the outside of the card on the inside to coordinate the entire card. Such a great idea! I borrow it all the time, thanks Cindy!

Yesterday's Scor-Pal class was fun, you can see a pic on the Paper Tales blog here:

Thanks Michele for the opportunity! I'm looking forward to our upcoming classes!

Have a super Sunday!

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas.....

Everywhere you go
Toys in every store
But the prettiest sight to see is the holly that will be

On your own front door

Well, it's barely mid September, we haven't hit Halloween yet, and Thanksgiving is still a couple months off, but the newest Thomas Kinkade release, 'Twas the Night Before Christmas, from Cornish Heritage Farms is just around the corner. Wednesday, Sept. 17th to be exact.

I made this ensemble that showcases the stamp image, coordinated sentiment and the Thomas Kinkade Christmas Series paper pack. The stamped image is seen on the ornament. I've made these ornaments in the past using vintage looking stamps and wanted to try my hand at using the detailed Kinkade images and see how they turn out. They turn out beautifully (the picture washes the ornament out a bit, sorry), the detail is clear, and they are so easy peasy to make!

First thing, cut off the too bright, blaring, gold ribbon that comes with the ornament when purchased from Michaels. Then, simply ink up the stamp with StazOn Timber Brown and press the blank ornament to it, hold firmly, it will want to wiggle; then pull carefully straight up. Let dry before tying organdy ribbon and attaching a gold cord. See? Simple!

The coordinating box was made with Prism Kraft card stock and a sheet of the striped patterned paper from the paper pack. Oh, and of course the Scor-Pal! It's 4.25" square box (4.25" x 4.25" x 1") and finished off with a image sheet from the paper pack that has been die cut with a Nestabilitie Circle die, and mounted on additional circles die cut from card stock. A bit of batting inside the box nestles the ornament, and the box is tied together with gold cording.

The top fold card, made with the same materials as the box, shows the coordinated sentiment release.

I'll be making a few of these as gifts this year!

Caught a Bug?

I should send this card in the mail to myself! I've been hit with a cold, first one in about 3 years, and it's not fun! Anyway, today is the CHF Blog Challenge: using Adirondack inks or reinkers. I used reinkers here to watercolor these fun germie bugs from Kim Hughes upcoming Comforting Hugs Set, available on Sept 16th.

A quick Aqua wash was applied to the large white layer and 3 germie bugs were stamped with Staz On Jet Black onto scraps, watercolored, cut out and attached over the washed area with dimensional foam. The image layer is matted on a thin black layer, corner brads are added, and then it's adhered to the Prism Intense Kiwi card base. May Arts is the ribbon.

Be sure to check out the other CHF DT challenge projects by visiting their blogs. You will find links on the left side bar, under CHF Design Team.

Have a great Monday!

Square x 3~

It's time to get off this square card and matching envie kick I've been on, next project I promise!

If you like color challenges, every Saturday on CHF there is a challenge posted. Today's challenge was to use Prism colors: Nautical Blue Light, Suede Brown Medium and Papaya Puree.
If you use SU! colors, the closest would be Bashful Blue, Close to Cocoa and Apricot Appeal.

I've a friend who recently had surgery, who is a fan of blue and sparkle, and this card is going to be making its way east in today's mail bringing get well wishes her way. This fun germie is from a new set coming out this week by Kim Hughes, called Comforting Hugs. There are all sorts of wonderful images and sentiments for sending out comforting hugs; a band-aid, a bowl of soup, a chicken, a couple of these germies , popsicle, and more, plus the coordinating sentiments.

The germie was stamped on the white base and then the images were outlined with Stickles for add glitz. The main image was stamped with Momento Rich Cocoa ink and colored in with a Copic Marker, then covered with Glossy Accents, let dry and then outlined in Stickles. He's shiny and sparkly! After the Stickles were dry, I made his pupils blue with a Souffle pen.

The tag was made Shrinky Dink style. A tag shape was cut to fit the full size sentiment, hole punched, and the sentiment was stamped in Brilliance Coffee Bean ink. After watching it curl up and flatten in the over, I let it cool and attached it to the ribbon with silver cording.

The envelope was made using Prism card stock and the Scor-Pal. I need to add an address label and get this baby in the mail! I hope it makes her feel better asap!

Whoops, I forgot to say I used the direct to paper technique on the base and image layers using Creamy Brown ink, and added a bit of paper distressing too.

Have a wonderful Saturday!

A Small Gift~

Just what do 4 mini (6.25" x 9") one sheet wonders become?

StarlitStudio inspired emory board holders, that's what!

Years ago, and at the only SU! convention I've attended, I met Cindy Lyles; we actually were roomies for convention. We made for great roomates, not something we would have known ahead of time. So we were thankful it worked out! LOL Among the gifts she brought along were these fantastic emory board holders. I still have both of the ones she made, I keep one in the car and one at my stamp counter. Why my stamp counter? It's perfect to sanding off little bits of paper or chipboard or edge distressing or any number of other uses...and sometimes even for its intended purpose!

Tomorrow night I'm having a Stamp Nite. I haven't had one since May and I have a full house coming over. I made these tonight to set at each place as a small gift to thank for them for coming.

Mine are made a bit different than Cindy's in the respect that I am not sure how she flapped the bottom of them. I sewed a small seam at the bottom to keep it together. The rest of the assembly details are:

To make 12 holders that hold 6" emory boards:
  • 4 sheets of 6.25" x 9" stamped cardstock or patterned paper
  • Cut each sheet into 3 equal pieces that measure 6.25" x 3"
  • Score at 3/4" and 2" longwise
  • Secure the larger flap over the smaller flap with adhesive - I use Scor-Tape, very strong double sided tape, available at Scor-Pal
  • Stitch the bottom, close to the edge, and backtrack one time for extra strength
  • Using SU!'s Word Window Punch, partially punch a notched area for easy removal of the emory board.
  • Tie a ribbon or leave plain, too many embellishments will get lost in the abyss of the car or purse, or wherever...

Off to clean up the mess, get Brett geared up for bed, and then begin to relax a bit. Last night after my favorite tv show (Bones) premiere, I cracked open the second book in the Twilight series, Edward is beckoning me tonight!

V.~

Supplies are all SU!

Same layout, different theme and.....

Another project for my upcoming Stamp Nite. Tart n Tangy is paired up with Summer Picnic DSP and Kraft cardstock, complete with a matching envelope. Layout is the same as the card below, just a different size at 4.5" square. The envelope was created by using an existing 5" cd holder envelope as a template and recreating it with the Scor-Pal.

The apple is stamped twice, once in Old Olive on the kraft layer, then again in Real Red on a kraft scrap. The seeds are highlighted with a black Jelly Roll pen. The red apple is trimmed closely, leaving a small border, and attached over the olive apple with a dimensional.

"Thanks" is from an oldie, but goodie, SU! set called Many Thanks, and is stamped in Versafine Onyx Black. 4 black mini brads, hemp, and a ribbon accent finish off this project.

Snowy Sophie~

Would certainly be melting if she was here today - it's just under a 100 degrees and hot! She's part of Kim Hughes individual stamp releases that happen tomorrow at Cornish Heritage Farms. Select images are being made available to purchase separately.

She's stamped on Prism Kraft cardstock with Brilliance Coffee Bean ink and just partially colored in with Prismacolor pencils, a bit of Stickle sparkle, a pierced ground and pigment distressed edges completes the focal image. She's matted on Prism Baby Blue light and again on Suede Brown Medium before attaching to the card base.

Patterned paper is from the new Scrapblocks™ Paper Pack released yesterday at CHF. 8 x 8 papers designed to work independently or in conjuction with the Scrapblocks™ line of rubber stamps. The sentiment is stamped directly on to the patterned paper with the Brilliance ink and the snowflake blinged with a rhinestone.

An envelope was made using the same Kraft cardstock and image. Template made from the lone 4.5" envelope I have remaining here at the house. The retailer down the street where I purchase envelopes is no longer selling this size. :( But, it was easy peasy to make the envelope using that envelope as a template and my Scor-Pal!

These fun Box in a Bag projects are all over the web, recently I made a diminutive version, however, this one is the full size version that has been seen on various blogs, stamping sites, etc.

Instead of me re-writing the tutorial for this version I will direct you to my good friend, Cami, who posted pictures and written directions on her blog, Stamp a Little Love Baby! Why reinvent the wheel when Cam's has done such a great job! Plus, if you've never been to her blog, you'll find a wonderful place to visit in the days to come.

Giving Thanks for You~

September, how did that happen so quickly? Summer is over, school begins today for my youngest son, Brett. He's not quite as excited as his older sister is about going back to school. Morgan has been in school a couple of weeks already and loves it.

The first of them of the month means it's time for the CHF SOTM set: Leaf and Acorn Giving Thanks is the release and is perfect for those fall projects you have in mind. I created a simple candle wrap and tag and dressed up this rather ordinary candle I purchased at the store. For safety issues, the band slides off to burn the candle, and can be easily placed back on the candle after burning.

The wrap was stamped with chalk inks first and then oversprayed with a Copic marker and the Air Brush system. By choosing a color that doesn't compete or change the stamped colors one can go mask free! Smile
