A while ago I posted a tutorial for a project similar to this one. I removed it for reasons I didn't want to go into at that time. The reason was I discovered a couple of my tutorials out on the internet, harvested without my knowledge. I know there are those out there who say you post it, it becomes free domain. Well, I just don't know about that. Tutorials are time consuming projects and I want to offer them, but it left me with a sour taste in my mouth.
Now I understand many of the tutorials I adapt to the Scor-Pal are from die cuts and print it yourself templates that are out and around the internet, and are not anything new. I am not claiming to be original every time (on occasion I am though Ü ), however, I am able to look at many 3D projects and see how to convert them in my head with the Scor-Pal. I don't have to print and copy other ones, I just see them and am able to figure it out. This has only been the case for the last couple of years and using the Scor-Pal. I never used to be able to see in "3D" this way. Actually, I pretty much failed math in school (well not quite, but it was close LOL), numbers were not my thing at all.
I heard several stories from people in regards to the tutorials they've gotten off the internet. Some said they had to pay for them, and even after paying for them, if offered as a class to other people they had to pay additional user fees for each person. Others are a one time fee. Others are on 3rd party sites, paper crafting websites, as well as on blogs, and such. So there are various ways to share. I am choosing to share on my blog and on the Scor-Pal site. A number of mine appear on the Scor-Pal site as I've been working with Diana and Roy for quite a while. Currently I am in the process of creating many tutorials for the metric Scor-Pal that will be released soon.
The reason I am reposting is simple, I've been overwhelmed with emails for the pdf version, even after I "closed" it due to being overwhelmed. So, to make my life easier I am posting it here again, in full color. Ü
On to the tutorial.

On to the tutorial.
Paper Sizes you will need:
Supplies:
- 1 - 8-5/8" x 11-1/8" piece of doublesided pattern paper
- 6 - 4-1/4 x 5-1/2" pieces of coordinating cardstock
- 6 - 4" x 5-1/4" neutral pieces of cardstock
- 6 - 1" x 5-1/2" patterned paper strips
- 6 - small focal pieces
Supplies:
- Scor-Pal
- Scor-Tape
- Scor-Mat
- Craft Knife
- Metal Edge Ruler
- Ribbon
- Adhesive
- Stamps and ink
- Punches, decorative rotary blade, etc. for embellishment

Step 1
Align the 8-5/8" side to the top fence, right side and score at 10" and 11"
These scores will create a double walled box side.

Step 2
Rotate 1/4 turn, aligning 11-1/8" side at the top fence, right side, and score at 10" and 11"
These scores will create a double walled box side.

Step 3
Rotate 1/4 turn and align 8-5/8" side at top fence, right side, and score at 10" and 11"
These scores will create a double walled box side.

Step 4
Rotate a 1/4 turn a final time and align the 11-1/8" side at the top fence, right side and score at
9" and 10" These scores will create the box side and lid area.
Rotate a 1/4 turn a final time and align the 11-1/8" side at the top fence, right side and score at
9" and 10" These scores will create the box side and lid area.

Step 5
Using the Scor-Mat, craft knife, and metal edge ruler, cut on lines shown below and remove pieces. (Ignore that darker middle line and just cut to the score line, a pen mishap occurred.)

Step 6
1. Notch 4 small tabs.
2. Slightly remove a smidgen off each short end of the 6-1/8" side flaps.
4 smidgeon trims total, just trim to the first scored line; this will help the double sides to fold easily and not bind up inside the box.

Step 11
Adhere bottom flap followed by both side flaps to inside box. This creates a double walled box, a bit more stable than a single walled box.

Val, thank you so much for continuing to share your ideas. You rock my world, my friend! :)
Val, thank you SO much for this wonderful tutorial. I have no doubt this is a time consuming endeavor....from writing the directions, taking the photos, editing the photos, and uploading photos on to your computer....my goodness, I can certainly understand charging a fee. Yet, here you are generously sharing your brilliance with your fans. YOU ARE AMAZING!!!
Awesome tutorial! Sorry to hear of your tutorials being harvested and mis-used. I too, have had that problem. There is someone SELLING my tutorials on her blog right now. *eye roll*
Thank you so much for sharing with us! I truly appreciate all the time and effort you put forth to share your talent with us.
Thank you so much for offering this tutorial. I know how much it must hurt and frustrate you. I love all that you do and hope that you will keep your chin up and roll on.... Hugs. This is awesome.
Val - you are an incredible talent! You are also a wonderful person and friend! And I treasure you. :) Thank you for sharing.
Thanks for sharing this again. I am sorry you are having your work stolen by others - its sad that some people just have no integrity. Don't let people like that get you down or discouraged!!
Oh Val, I'm so sorry about the harvesting. So frustrating. It really makes you think twice about tutorials and if they are really appreciated for all the work or just abused.
I just have to say I think this is a fantastic project girl! And that you were very ingenious to create it and pull it all together. You ROCK! If I ever use it (cause its so darn great), I'll be sure to credit you and link back here!
I for one am amazed by your talent and also amazed at the gall of people who would claim this as "their own" and charge for it!!
I thank you for sharing your gift wtih us. Your project is wonderful!
Thank you to Scor-Pal for recognizing the talent they have in you, too!
Val ~ I am sorry that there are people out there who claim a project as theirs when it truly isn't! If I am able to create this, I will definitely post a link back here (I have it saved so I can reference it easy). Thank you so much for sharing this with all of us!!
Jenny
I'm sorry. I don't get it. Could I come to your house and have you show me how to make it personally? I promise I am a very good student. Just ask Bevie Pearl. How much do you charge for class?
Seriously, thank you for sharing your talent with us. Yes, tutorials take a long time. Thank you for taking the time to help us all create! You are awesome Val from Cal!
You're generous and giving. That's all I'm sayin'. Except that your creations are amazing.
Hi Val! I just wanted to say THANK YOU for reposting. Without individuals like yourself willing to share your talent I would myself be "lost!!!"
Thank you for the tutorial and the explanation, it wasn't what I expected, actually. There is another very similar box template being sold on a stamping website and I thought it had something to do with that, but I'm glad I was wrong. I love your stuff and hope you will continue to share it with all of us.
Hi Val,
Thanks so much for being willing to share your hard work and creativity, simply for the sake of sharing it. Interestingly enough, I posted a blog about this very topic just earlier today. I'm very sorry to hear that your work and Jody Lynn's have been used for profit rather than for enjoyment.
I do hope you continue to post your work as you have often been a source of inspiration for me.
Stamp on!!
What a beautiful project! I love your cards for their simplicity, elegance and beauty. As I have zero creativity I always look to you for my gift ideas and mother's day presents.
Thank you so much for sharing them once again and I am so sorry people have taken advantage of your generosity.
Vivian
Thanks very much for sharing your knowledge and helping us all create such a great project!
Hi Val! So sorry you went thru all that junk. People are going to do this no matter what.
I will now post the one I made on my blog. I had decided not too, because I was afraid that you (or I) would be flooded with requests for the instructions and didn't want to do that after you had pulled it.
Can't wait to see all the tutorials you share for Score Pal!
Thanks Val,
You are the BEST! i can't wait to try this:)
Val, I understand where you are coming from, and want to thank you for posting your instructions. I too can see 3-D stuff and figure out how to do it. So, I've never purchased a pattern and don't know if I ever will. It's fun for me to figure it out.
I did a project like this with custom note paper for my daughter's teacher. I like how you make it out of one piece though. Great job!
Going to give your method a try even though I don't have a scor-pal. Thanks!
Thank you so much for continuing to share your gift of creativity! I am grateful that you posted this as I have wanted to try making it for gift giving. I appreciate all of the detail you put into your instructions. Many thanks!
How rude!
They better just take your class at Paper Tales!
I love you, Kudos, Hurrah, Bravo...well said!
Mwah and a Squeeze,
Di
As a new Scorpal user I appreciate the time and care you have taken to put this helpful tutorial together.
It's awful when people take your ideas and try to pass them off as their own. I understand how it would make you not want to share so much. However, thanks for reposting these instructions. I missed it the first time. You'd already closed the offer by the time I read the post. I'm so glad to have these instructions with pictures. I'm not too good with my SP just yet and need clear directions. Thanks again.
Thank you so much for this tutorial. I just found your blog. I think it's great that you offer your tutorials for free. I will definitely be making this box.
The world is full of good and bad. But good always prevails:) All of your hard work truly is appreciated by the prevailing! Thank you:)
Thank you so much for reposting this tutorial. I followed your instructions and finished the base box, haven't finished the cards yet. It turned out pretty good, given that I am horrible at following directions!
Don't let the crazy's get you down!
Thank you Valerie for sharing your time and talent with us. I am sorry that people take advantage of you. I just want you to know how much I personally love your blog, your tutorials and your incredible artistic ability. You truly have a gift and I am so grateful to you for sharing it with us. Best, Catherine (aka muffincards)
I just LOVE all of your work, Valerie and really am grateful for the generous spirit in which you share your talents. This is a wonderful tutorial (I just made one in about ten minutes). Please know that like ripples in a pond, your work will put smiles on many faces (both gifters and giftees). Many hugs,
Kathy

Thank you for sharing this awesome tutorial with us! I just finished making two of these (not the cards yet). Your tutorial was so easy to follow! Thanks again for sharing all of your wonderful creations!
THANKS so much! This would make a great little gift to send my daughter @ college
Thank you for posting your tutorial. I'm sorry to hear about your previous problems. I hope you receive the recognition you deserve for your wonderful work.
HI Val
I am visiting this website thru Kathi Carlson since she posted your link. WOW I love this box.
I have made lots of cute boxes before but I like the way this one lends itself to gift wrapping so easily and shows off the cards inside!
Thank you for your work in posting this template.!!
Thank you so much for sharing this lovely little box. I made my MIL one with a set of note cards & she just loved it!
Thanks so much for the tutorial on this adorable card holder!
This is fabulous. Thank you so much for sharing. I can't wait to make this.
This is gorgeous Val! Thank you so much for sharing your talent with us.
You are DA BOMB! It's a gift and you got it baby!! Thanks for sharing with us... always Val from Cal! :)
Thank you so much for sharing. This is what I have been looking for and I just don't have the patience on how to figure this stuff out myself. I have been looking for a box like this for sometime for gifts. You are awesome. Thank you so much. I understand the problems. I came to your site from Cambria's site. Thanks again! Keep up the great work you do!
Thank you for sharing! You've done a fabulous job with your tutorial!
Cheers.

Thank you for posting this! I'm so sorry you were diappointed by rude people stealing your work. I appreciate it that you put it back!
Thank you for sharing the tutorial, and I am sorry others are taking credit for your original idea as well as your tutorials. I share pics of my version of your project, and then give your website as credit and directions to make their own. I appreciate the time and effort you have put into sharing with us.
Thank you so much for sharing this tutorial! If I get a chance to use it I will definitely give you credit and not claim it as my own. It's a shame that not everyone does it. Thanks again for sharing.
I can't believe that others are out there claiming your tutorials as theirs and in the one case you mentioned, SELLING it! I'd be doing more than an eye roll right now, let me tell you! Thanks so much for putting this out there again. I'm going to be working on a set of cards for both my Mom and her secret pal (why make something for her to give her secret pal and then not make the same for her?) so this will be MOST helpful in putting together a darling box for the cards. THANK YOU!!!
I absolutely *love* this box! Thank you SO much for the tutorial and for the inspiration!! :)
Thank you so much for sharing this tutorial!! Can't wait to make it!
Thank you! you have saved me a ton of work I have been thinking through this type of project and then I saw a link to this on SCS - thanks so much!
BTDT, Val. You know where I stand and have always. {{{{Val}}}}
A fellow A Muse designer credited you for the tutorial by providing a link, and I'm excited to try making one of these!
I appreciate your generosity in sharing your time and talent--this project is so cute!
That is sooo low-bred. There should be something you can do about that....to everyone it happens to! I sure don't want the wonderful knowledge well to dry up.
If nothing else, shame them by posting who is selling someone eles's work.
Thank you so much for the tutorial. I completely understand about seeing your work elsewhere with no credit. It is very frustrating. If I can make this cute little box, and if I get the chance to post it on my blog. I will post the link to your blog and give you full credit. Thanks again for sharing.
Thanks so much for posting this tutorial. I sympathize with the problem of others harvesting your work. If I make one and post it, I'll be sure to credit you for it.
This is a great box and would be a great gift for someone with cards and envies in it.
